Ancient Corinth half day

We’ll drive out of the city along the western coastline of Attica, for almost 80km to visit: the Corinth Canal: probably the oldest major construction work in Greece (dated 1880-1893) that really changed everything in transportation, allowing ship interconnection between the Ionian and the Aegean Sea. Next stop is the small town of Ancient Corinth, where you can enjoy your lunch before visiting its impressive archaeological site which includes: Temple of Apollo (one of the earliest Doric temples in the Peloponnese and Greek mainland). Bema of Saint Paul (Roman Forum): according to tradition, the site of Saint Paul’s (also known as the Apostle of the Nations) trial was the Bema, a large elevated rostrum standing prominently in the center of the Roman Forum of ancient Corinth, wherefrom the city’s officials addressed the public. Archaeological Museum: the museum houses a large collection of artifacts of the local archaeological site and smaller sites in the neighboring area. The artifacts, which were systematically recovered beginning in 1896 by the Corinth Excavations, illustrate much about Ancient Corinth through Greek, Roman and Byzantine rule. Acrocorinth: This is the acropolis of ancient Corinth, a typical example of castle architecture built in successive phases, as it was the fortified citadel of both ancient and medieval Corinth. Situated at the top peak of the Acrocorinth, lies the Temple of Aphrodite, the protector deity of the city of Corinth. Nafplio full day tour

We’ll drive out of the city along the western coastline of Attica and after almost 80km, we will have our first stop to see the Corinth Canal. This canal is probably the oldest major construction work in Greece (dated 1880-1893) that really changed everything in transportation, allowing ship interconnection between the Ionian and the Aegean Sea. We will then drive for 64km to the city of Nafplio, probably the most beautiful and romantic city of Greece. Nafplio was the first capital of the Hellenic Republic between 1823 and 1834. Ancient walls, medieval castles, monuments and statues, Ottoman fountains and Venetian or neoclassical buildings create a unique scenery that will capture your mind. You will visit the spectacular Palamide castle. Perched above the city of Nafplio, this castle was built by the Venetians in 1711–1714. There is the option either to follow the famous steps (999 in total) until the castle entrance or to drive directly to the top and be rewarded with stunning views over the whole surrounding area. We will then come down to the city where many options for a pleasant lunch are available for you, either inside the old picturesque town or by the sea with a great view of Bourtzi. Located on a tiny island off the harbor, Bourtzi was also built by Venetians in the 15th century and has known a long history as a castle, prison, hotel, office for tourism and housing for the Greek government. Reachable by boat, Bourtzi is now used to host events and concerts in the summer. Rest of the tour is free for you to explore the old medieval quarter and wander inside the many narrow stone paved streets. INCLUTIONS : Mini van (up to 7 pax.), cold water, English speaking driver - guide, tolls and all fees. DESCLUTIONS : Food and drinks, licensed tour guide, tips.
