Devil's Throat cave, Yagodinska cave and Eagle's Eye
Devil’s Throat and Yagodinska caves.
The Devil's Throat Cave is located in the western part of the Rhodopes mountain range near the Greek border and is an extremely popular tourist destination. In reality, this devilish gorge holds many mystical forces within its walls because here you can find the largest underground waterfalls on the Balkan Peninsula. According to local legends, the Thracian musician Orpheus once attempted to bring back his beloved Eurydice, who had been taken by Pluto (Hades) to the underworld.
Yagodinska Cave stretches over approximately 10,500 meters across three floors—with one floor alone being about 1,100 meters long—which were illuminated between 1971 and 1982 and have been accessible to visitors ever since. This specific layer features artificial entrances measuring roughly 150 and 80 meters each, leading out toward daylight once more. These openings are situated at altitudes of 930 and 937 meters above sea level respectively, with consistent temperatures of six degrees Celsius year-round, accompanied by high moisture levels ranging from eighty-five percent to ninety-one percent relative humidity.
