Day 01: Arrival in Addis Ababa – City Tour
Welcome to Ethiopia! Upon arrival at Bole International Airport, our representative will meet you and transfer you to your hotel. After some rest and refreshment, begin your city tour of Addis Ababa, exploring its highlights:
Entoto Mountain for a panoramic view of the capital.
National Museum, home to the famous fossil “Lucy.”
Merkato, one of Africa’s largest open-air markets.
Holy Trinity Cathedral, an important religious and historical landmark.

Day 02: Addis Ababa – Fly to Semera – Drive to Erta Ale (Danakil Depression)
After breakfast, fly to Semera Airport. Upon arrival, enjoy lunch and begin your drive to Erta Ale, meaning “smoking mountain” in the Afar language. Erta Ale is one of the world’s most active volcanoes and features a rare permanent lava lake. The journey passes through unique desert landscapes and Afar settlements. In the evening, trek up the volcano to witness the mesmerizing glow of molten lava under the night sky.
Overnight: Camping at Erta Ale (at the crater rim)
Day 03: Erta Ale – Dallol (Lake Afdera)
Early in the morning, explore the crater and enjoy the incredible views of the lava lake before descending to the base of the volcano for breakfast. Then continue driving toward Dallol, passing through rough but stunning terrain of solidified lava, sand, and salt plains.
Stop at Ragad (Asebo) to witness traditional salt mining—watch as Afar workers cut salt blocks and load them onto camel caravans. Continue to Hamedela, a small settlement in the Danakil region.

Day 04: Drive from Dallol to Mekele – Continue to Axum
After breakfast, drive from the Danakil region to Mekele, then continue toward Axum, Ethiopia’s most ancient city. En route, visit Abuna Yemata Guh, one of the most remarkable rock-hewn churches of Tigray. The ascent involves a short hike and a thrilling climb carved into sandstone cliffs, offering spectacular views and a profound spiritual experience.

Day 05: Axum – Drive to Hawzen
After breakfast, explore the ancient city of Axum, famous for its towering obelisks, archaeological sites, and ancient inscriptions. Then drive to Hawzen, stopping to visit:
The Adwa Battlefield, where Emperor Menelik II defeated Italian forces in 1896.
The ruins of Yeha, home to Ethiopia’s oldest temple (over 2,500 years old).
Aba Gerima and Petros Paulos, two of the Tigray region’s finest rock churches.

Day 06: Fly from Axum to Addis Ababa
After breakfast, transfer to Axum Airport for your flight back to Addis Ababa. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel for relaxation and refreshment after your northern adventure.

Day 07: Fly to Lalibela – Explore the Rock-Hewn Churches
After breakfast, take a short flight to Lalibela, the “New Jerusalem” of Ethiopia. Upon arrival, transfer to your hotel and begin your tour of the magnificent 11 medieval rock-hewn churches, carved directly into the volcanic rock.
Visit the first group of churches, including Bete Medhane Alem, Bete Maryam, Bete Meskel, Bete Golgotha, and St. George (Bete Giyorgis).
In the afternoon, explore the second group—Bete Gabriel-Rufael, Bete Abba Libanos, Bete Amanuel, and Bete Qeddus Mercoreus.

Day 08: Lalibela – Fly Back to Addis Ababa – Departure
After breakfast, fly back to Addis Ababa. Spend the afternoon shopping for souvenirs or relaxing. In the evening, enjoy a farewell cultural dinner with traditional Ethiopian cuisine and live music before your transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
