My name is Luis, but everyone calls me Lui. I am a fourth-generation Portuguese descendant, born and raised right here on the island of O'ahu. My roots run deep—my family was part of the storied Hawaiian sugar industry, and my father, a U.S. Navy sailor, met my mother while stationed at Pearl Harbor. Growing up along the shores of Pearl Harbor, I developed a lifelong fascination with World War II Pacific history and the unique heritage of our island. After serving as a submariner in the U.S. Navy myself, I went on to earn a degree in U.S. History with a focus on the Pacific region. Being from O'ahu, I’ve been lucky to hear firsthand stories passed down through generations—including accounts of the December 7, 1941, attack, as told by my grandfather who was on base that day. As a passionate storyteller with over 7 years experience as a tour guide, I love sharing these powerful narratives with those eager to learn—whether we’re tracing the events leading up to the attack on Pearl Harbor or exploring the hidden history along the North Shore.
