A visit to the Rubber Museum surrounded by nature.

A visit to the Seringal Museum in Manaus is a real history lesson and even an adventure. Showcasing the heyday of the Rubber Cycle, the museum depicts life on the rubber plantations, including those of the plantation owners (colonels) and northeastern workers who came to the Amazonian city to harvest latex—many bringing their families along. The guided tour starts at Marina do Davi, where you’ll board a standard motorboat passing through numerous riverfront settlements. Along the journey, look out for schoolboats and medical transport vehicles carrying vaccinations and health care providers. Inside the rubber tycoon’s mansion, visitors will find items like fine Chinese porcelain, a grand German upright piano dating back to 1900, exquisite Swiss clockwork mechanisms, and some European imports deemed impractical here due to the region’s tropical climate - one example being a heating furnace designed for cold climates! The Ceremonial Bond with Nature Tour takes guests inside the world of the seringueiros or tappers; there they encounter traditional working implements made from calabash gourds, heavy machetes, and weaponry primarily intended for defense against local tribesmen. Meanwhile, within the storage sheds lie remnants of goods which these hardworking individuals managed to acquire over time — but only after producing no less than fifty kilograms of raw caoutchouc each week just to make ends meet. This relentless cycle meant debts towards landowners would often accumulate rather than diminish... This fascinating excursion spans approximately forty minutes showcasing not only key aspects of Brazil’s infamous borracha era but also offering participants a chance to explore parts of the surrounding jungle featured prominently in “The Jungle,” providing insight into its diverse flora and fauna.
