Feel like a "demon maker"! A mini onigawara making experience where you can create your very own unique and personalized onigawara!

Awaji Island is one of the three main regions where roof tiles are produced. Here, you can make your very own mini version of the traditional temple and shrine roofing tiles known as Onigawara (a size of about 20 cm x 20 cm). These unique tiles were crafted by skilled craftsmen referred to as "Onishi," with only around ten Onishi left across all of Awaji Island compared to roughly fifty throughout Japan! You’ll have fun adding details such as mouths, teeth, and horns onto this blank clay shape just like our expert craftspeople do. Once complete, we fire each creation until they achieve their signature silvery sheen before sending them off to your doorstep. Keep yours as a souvenir of your travels, use it as decoration back home, or even carry its protective charm wherever life may take you.
